Oceans and seas are a vast and beautiful manifestation of nature. They have many tales to tell; tales which are often fabricated and not true beyond the myths equally interesting. Well, very few of us are familiar with the fact that number of oceans and seas in the world that we know is not true beyond the myth.

According to legends by several past civilizations of the world, there are seven seas in the world. But, the present world is not simply familiar with the seas as it also has to deal with the word oceans in its vocabulary.

Let’s Look at Fact.

So the question still remains here. How many seas are there in the world?

Without discussing the subject matter in detail it is safe to say that there are at least five oceans and seven seas in the world. The oceans include, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Southern Ocean. And, famous seas include Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, Baltic Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea etc.

What Is the Difference between Ocean and Sea?

It is to be noted that there is a difference between Ocean and Sea. Many people think that Ocean is larger in term of area and sea is smaller which is true but not an entire fact to define these two entities. A sea is in fact a part of Ocean and farms a bay between the lands. There are many water bodies that people refer to as Sea but they are just water lakes for being land locked and not being a part of any ocean. The examples include Black Sea and Bosporus Sea which are just water lakes.

Now, it should be clear that every water body with Suffix Sea is not necessarily a sea.
