Hiroshi Mikitani is not only the founder of the e-commerce sensation Rakuten but also, he is the president of Crimson Group, chairman of the famous Japanese football club Vissel Kobe, chairman of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and also a board member of Lyft.

Ryoichi Mikitani, Hiroshi Mikitani’s father was an economist who became Japan's first Fulbright Scholar to the US and taught at Yale University for two years. During Ryoichi Mikitani’s tenure at Yale University from 1972 to 1974, the Mikitani family lived in New Haven, Connecticut. Setsuko Mikitani, Hiroshi’s mother went to elementary school in New York City, before she returned to Kobe.
After Setsuko completed her graduation from Kobe University, she started working at a trading company. Hiroshi’s sister Ikuko is a physician, an MD at Osaka University. Hiroshi’s brother, Kenichi is a professor of biology at the University of Tokyo. Hiroshi’s grandfather was a co-founder of Minolta. Hiroshi is married to Haruko Mikitani and the couple has 2 kids as well.
