Study proves immense effect of automatic calculators on quality of life

218 adult patients from the UK and Germany with poorly controlled type 1 and type 2 diabetes participated in the 6 months long study. One half formed the control group, and had to calculate their bolus insulin doses manually. The experimental group used the Accu-Chek® Aviva Expert system with the Accu-Chek® Bolus Advisor. The aim of the study was to decrease the HbA1c value by at least 0.5%. In comparison to the control group, 63% more patients that were using the Accu-Chek® Aviva Expert achieved the HbA1c reduction. It appeared that there was no increase in hypoglycemic events and patients’ fear of hypoglycemia was reduced. Furthermore, treatment satisfaction was proven to be even better overall among the experimental group.
