Background: Andy Rocchelli was an Italian photojournalist, brave and talented, 30 years old. In May 2014, he was in Ukraine to cover the war in the pro-Russian Donetsk region. On May 24th 2014, Andy was targeted by a shooting and killed together with his colleague Andrey Mironov, while they were reporting on the terrible situation of the civilians in that area of the conflit. The circumstances of the attacks are not clear yet. With them there was also another photographer, the French William Roguelon, who managed to hide and save himself, still remaining seriously wounded. He was only 20 years old at that time.
3 years passed by and truth is still lacking on the tragedy of Andy Rocchelli and Andrey Mironov. The Ukrainian authorities didn’t conduct serious investigations. Recently however the last pictures of Andy, shot by him moments before being killed, were found and retrieved. They can help to understand what happened. William Roguelon came to the IJF with Andy Rocchelli’s parents to tell the whole story and ask for media attention. Interview by Anna Ferrari
